Police moved in to evict the Occupy Albany encampment across from the NYS Capitol on December 22, 2011. City counsel Stephen Rehfuss held a press conference and protesters were counseled by lawyer Mark Mishler. Then protesters marched, carrying a tent before coming back to confront police in Academy Park. Several were arrested or pepper-sprayed, and a WTEN-TV cameraman was injured.
I was proud to participate in a smaller Occupy movement in another upstate city. I appreciate your passion and commitment. However, I feel that this was really bad press for the movement. In many instances, police have been heavy-handed in many cities. That being said, the group of protesters who shouted "Goebels was just following orders" or something to that extent, were just plain foolish. This kind of hysteria makes us look like a rank group of amateurs. We can do better, and not instigate!

@Notecrusher The problemis that most of the people who were really for what the movement is about aren't hardly ever there. They are afraid of the cold weather. What does that say about them.As for the rest they were there for the party,or for food and shelter. The camp went to shit quickly. All the bullshit and the fact that hardly anyone was there for the right reasons has been kept hush hush to keep up appearances.Realistically it's been over for a long long time.

@51:00 to end, you can't make that up, comedy at its greatest. Funny part about the OWS people, is that for some unsubstanciated reason, they believe that the government and wall street actually care about they have to say. You guys arn't changing anything... Jesus how many guys came on that crazy stupid bitch's face?

@DeRocco21 Content can be regulated. You cannot yell bomb on a plane, you cannot yell fire in a movie theatre. You cannot utter obscenities is public. There are limits and responsibilities with all rights.

@AlbanyConservative your 1st amendment rights can still be regulated by Time, and Place, except the content of their free speech

YOu idiots were pepper-sprayed because you were endangering the police and you were in violation of a court order. Your constitutional rights do not override my constitutional rights or the rights of the police officers that you attacked and the court orders that you chose to violate. The right to assemble and the right to free speech are not without limits and boundaries. You guys know that and yet you put forth your distorted view as facts when you know they ar false. Good riddance.

The police put up with these people for over two months, allowing them to break the law on a daily basis, and DA soares refused to do his job and prosecute them. The behavior of these protestors on Thursday is indicative of their ideology. They are Saul Alinsky communists with a machiavellian philosophy. The don't respect my rights, or anyone elses. You people are the 1% and yo know it. The 1% who will never fit in, the 1% that society shuns due to your idiocy and ignorance of society.

The 1% attack now, late in December when the ranks are small and they can overwhelm with their police violence. In spring it will be another story. They have made a great miscalculation.
