Alexander Nehamas, an internationally known philosopher and Princeton University professor, presented Because It Was He, Because It Was I: The Good of Friendship. The lecture, held March 22, 2010, in the University Theatre, was UMs Henry Bugbee Annual Lecture in Philosophy. Nehamas is the Edward N. Carpenter II Class of 1943 Professor in Humanities and professor of philosophy and comparative literature at Princeton. He is the author of the classic "Nietzsche: Life as Literature" and many other books. Writing in opposition to the dominant trend in recent years to make philosophy look more and more like a science, he has set himself the task of reclaiming the defining tradition of ancient Greek philosophy as a quest to master the art of living.
I am reading Professor Nehamas book on Nietzche Life as Literature an excellent book. Thank you for uploading this lecture here - a great topic! Friendships- a very complex subject. I agree with Professor Nehamas about the degree to which we make friends.
