In this video we present technology for the automatic generation of audiovisual programmes. Using SALERO technology, it is possible to assemble different clips, virtual characters, animations, cameras, lighting and audio along a time-line, and procedurally generate multiformat vidoes, according to externally input data. This allows the same template scene to be used for several presentations e.g. different weather forecasts or, in the case of one of SALERO's experimental productions, a virtual Video Jockey introducing different music videos.
Activation-Evaluation wheel:
New facial animation technology developed within the SALERO project allows computers animators to save valuable time when animating virtual character faces. In this video, we show a demonstration of facial animation as a function of two variables: "activation", controlling the strength of the expression; and "evaluation" controlling the positive-negative balance of the expression. Together with a third variable controlling the asymmetry of the face, this system allows the creation of a video variety of expressions. Crucially, the time required to set up this system is a fraction of the time that it would take an computer animator to achieve the same number of expressions using usual methods.
The Maskle:
The SALERO project has resulted in several tools that speed up traditionally repetitive processes within the audiovisual production pipeline. One such tool is the Maskle, designed for rapid facial animation of a host of virtual humanoid faces. By applying the desired facial animation weighting previously to a low-resolution facial mask, this tool warps that mask to a target face's geometry before the weighting system and leaving the face ready to animate.
