I'm new to photography, and I'm considering this for my first serious camera. However, i read in a review somewhere that the photos are no better resolution than the photos taken from a cell phone. I don't want to waste money on a camera that doesn't actually take any good shots. What do you think of the photo resolution?

Thanks so much, this was really, REALLY helpful! I especially liked the 'demos.' That's really what I needed. I read reviews about it making the audio sounding muffled, and it's not bad at all. So, again, Thanks. ^^

Do you recommend this camera for a novice you just whats to take picturesvof the family?

@agreebler Yes its a very good camera for simple point and shoot, and for taking complex pictures also.
If you are going to take it on vacation and such, It is a little bulky (doesnt fit in pocket because of lense) but I've played with a slim Nikon Coolpix that slides in your pocket. Same software so the interface is the same, but just not as high quality as this camera. Still takes wonderful pictures tho.
