Krishna disguised as a dark girl offers to decorate Radha's feet with red dye. Mesmerised by the dark girl's sweet words, Radha agrees. She changes into an old, torn, short sari which barely covers her body and sits in front of Krishna. Krishna writes his own name under Radha's feet. Angry, Radha demands an explanation. Krishna tries to flee. Radha catches hold of his long plait which comes off. She pulls at the sari and Krishna 's disguise comes off. Radha is filled with shame at being so scantily dressed in front of him but Krishna holds on to her feet, pretending to ask for forgiveness and does not let her leave.

  • Loved the dance, also loved the song...what's it called ? Would love to put on my ipod ?

  • 'Pranosongini re kali mu ki laje budhili ' is an old Oriya song written by the famous poet Banamali Das.

  • elegant and highly refined abhinay - but still in the human manner (as you say in your interview on webindia).

why don't you try to do it not in the human manner (well, the influence of the filmy world...), but in the way Krishna himself could have done it?

(btw, some torso twists are not very seamless )

  • When Krishna in disguise imitates the gait of a woman the torso movements are exaggerated as opposed to the subtle movements of Radha (the uttama nayika). They have been intentionally choreographed that way. I am glad you noticed. I think this is a very human episode....when I show Krishna performing one of his miraculous feats I would definitely depict it in a god-like manner.

  • @nandinighosal ,I like this bhajan very much , but want to be very honest, one - the accent is very bad. Its not justification to the original language, besides the singer seems to have not enough classical singing background. The strong points seem to be dragged. The entire song including aalap is dragged in one flat scale. It's killing the odissi bhajan basically. With all due respect to the artist, I wanted to be very truthful. regards.

  • Sublime, absolutely sublime... so exquisite. I can't thank you enough for sharing this!

  • Nandini, your abhinaya is superb! I enjoyed your beautiful face tremendouly and the expressions of Radha's bhavas are excellent... Thank you for sharing.

I'm a dancer of bharatanatyam myself and the krsna padams are my favorite pieces.

  • Wow!! I can't believe it took me so long to find you. Beautiful!!

    Thankyou for sharing.

  • It is always a pleasure to watch your performance. Infact, the expressions coupled with the beautiful mudras makes it mesmerizing as well as inspiring for young dancers like us. Watching you on television and then again in the classical form only raises the respect for your multi-talented personality.

  • Finally! No high-pitched tone singing from a woman! *sighs* So refreshing :-). I like this style of singing much much better. Please post more clips with the singer in it.

  • beautiful, orissa dance find this video at tv(dot)orissaodisha(dot)com
