Answer: because every person from church has that don't know don't want to know effect as they have been brain dead. The preacher first of all is incapable of telling the truth and will never tell the truth about the TRUE agenda behind religion.
There is always an excuse...but never a good reason?! Maybe, you guys need to research further. I'll help you by giving you a reason why I don't go to church anymore?
@delbard1 Come to Seattle to Downtown Cornerstone then. Since we are very close to Union Gospel Mission, a big chunk of the avg 120 attendees are homeless & alcoholics. If Pittsburgh only wants Brady Bunch types, then that is who they want, but they will be going counter to the example of Jesus - who hung out with every 'unacceptable' person of his day: roman-collaborators, day laborers, prostitutes, hated foreigners (including troops), the diseased, law-breakers, women, on & on.
@gsschoenfeld Hmm. Tough one. I propose three states: a) the verse is objectively evil and should be ignored, 2) the verse has been improperly executed by the human organization of the church throughout history, 3) the verse is objectively good, but is understandable only through proper arcing (connections to context in the passage, the book and between all books of the Bible. I am going with a blend of #2 & #3, of course.

Can I still "belong" if I believe it is perfectly fine to cross out and ignore bible verses which I believe are too negative?

ALL the churches in the Pittsburgh Pa area want "Brady Bunch" types. I am no where near that.
