It's strange that (Charles) Van Doren is there speaking to Mortimer as if he, Charles, knew nothing of the book. Didn't they co-write the book? I know it's a mode of getting the answers out on television, but it's odd that Van Doren played the interolocutor. Did he have a show or something?
The "manual" for developing critical thought;
and an "instruction guide" for properly
understanding "The Great Books" (imho).
