Since the late '40s, jingles were an important part of top 40 radio, and if you were going to be a hot-shot Top 40 station in the early '60s, you had to have some pretty hip jingles. The music here comes from a promotional record from 1963, when Omaha-based Star Stations purchased WIFE (1310 AM) in Indianapolis and turned it into a big time Top 40 station, complete with cash contests, a host of DJs called 'the Good Guys' and a very aggressive style.
Many stations affiliated with PAM's Jingles were using an identifier song called 'My Home Town' which was a custom song-length jingle that worked in the city landmarks as well as the radio station itself. This was a similar song, called "Indianapolis, Indiana" and was credited to the 'WIFE Singers.' It was pressed up as a giveaway record which is what I am gonna share with you, along with mostly period correct photos from WIFE's heyday
It's fabulous to hear these again.
