Here's a nostalgic look at my first 2D animation class' final project (Early 2006). There was no rotoscoping... just countless amounts of wild sketches and hours of cleaning up the line work. Seriously... like 36 hours of work... It burned my eyes, but it was way fun. I need to polish it up a bit. Special thanks to my buddy Joe for helping me with the referencing and letting me beat the crap outta him with a plastic sword.
The project is a back-burner idea I had that eventually will come to fruition (eventually).
The story goes (cuz the subtitles are ill-timed and illegible [compression and bad timing had its hand in that]): this guy (Zero - the faceless masked thug) is after the two legendary demon swords, Sanga and Yasha (fanboy alert) whose keeper passed away recently and left them in the care of his apprentice (Rybiki - the guy with the fancy shorts). Zero is supposed to be a smart-ass and I like ninjas... put it all together and you have a very short scene that took way too long to make, but it was a fun couple of sleepless nights.
