We did some research on IP in familiar contexts. One example is plagiarism at the University of Washington.
The act of putting another's works into one's own words and reproducing it without giving credit to the original author is plagiarism.
The University of Washington takes plagiarism very seriously, in which student plagiarism could result in rustication from the college.

However, plagiarism does not have to be a copyright violation.
For Example, copying a sentence from a website and inserting into an assignment or paper is legal according to US copyright laws, but it would count as plagiarism if the original author or site was not given credit for the work.

The University of Washington uses certain software like Turn-it-in for CSE and scorelator for Math for the submission of homework assignments and projects to ensure the honest work of students.

*Presentation is missing references to UW Professor Alan Moore's Intellectual Property lectures!!!
