A weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a smoldering settler/rancher conflict forces him to act in this classic Oscar winning western.

(Shane, incidentally, is referenced to in a song on Roger Waters' album "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking")

Yeah, Tombstone is with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer. I think Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday made that movie into a classic. "I'm your Huckleberry".

"Open Range" stars Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner and was just made a few years ago. You should check it out. Excellent movie and it has multiple story lines that the characters deal with. You won't be dissapointed.

    May God bless ! !

I agree that Pale Rider is an excellent film. Obviously, I love Unforgiven but am not so sure about Tombstone. Is that the version with Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and Michael Biehn? I have never heard of Open Range, so I shall look it up. Best wishes Villiago

I think "Pale Rider" with Clint Eastwood made in 1985 has almost an identical storyline as "Shane", just with a different backdrop. I think "Unforgiven", "Open Range" and "Tombstone" are three great recent Westerns.

Lol! Yes, Jack Palance is brilliantly bad in Shane. It's a pity the whole film is not uploaded on to Youtube. Truly a classic western along with the likes of: Red River and The Searchers. In recent times, only Unforgiven, in my opinion, can match it for pathos.

I've seen Shane over 150 times. I pretty much know the dialogue by heart. Can anyone top 150? Oh, imho, the best western ever made.

Yes Wilson shot Shane, but not deadly. He rides off after having reasured Joey that he is OK. And Shane can be taken by his word.
