you plug your 5 pin midi cable into the usb port of you computer
Through a 5 pin midi cable to usb?

Well you could though why would you ? Keep in mind that the G2M is monophonic so chords aren't a possibility unless you arppegiate them. The GR20 setup provides more flexibility and polyphonic capability albeit at a higher price and the required pickup attachment for your guitar. The G2M takes the audio out jack from your guitar.and converts it to MIDI so no additional pickup is required.

It should to some degree, probably better in the upper registers but from what I understand SONNUS is making a unit specifically for Bass.
Check with SONNUS!!!
