@moviemaniac180 Hi cousins! My grandfather is Spencer I. Hayden! Not sure how far back I have to go but, he informed me that we are indeed related to Basil. It definitely is a small world!

@jmpyle1 what do you think accounts for the striking color difference between this and say, the Bakers 7 year. One would think - longer in the barrel the darker the color? Is this due to amount of barrel char, or is the Basil Hayden's diluted to get the lower proof?

@terrapin72 You nailed it with the last one. Bakers is 107. Basil Hayden is 80 proof. That's more than 1/4 more concentration. That is the biggest reason for the color difference. Also where the whiskey is aged can effect it. At the heart and lower levels of the warehouses the amount of interaction with the char is less so than the more volatile temperature variations of the extreme portions of the warehouse.

8.4. Ouch. Honestly, I haven't seen any great reviews of this product so I have steered clear because of the high price tag. Great bottle design though.

@falcon048 Well, my rating scale for 8.4 is "very good/excellent". It's good whiskey. A little over priced, but for someone looking for light bodied and not too sweet, it's a good one.
