The American tax code plays an enormous role in how our economy functions. With Americans speaking out about the economy and taxation, Rep. John Carter suggests we need to reform and simplify our tax code. He wants you to speak out about tax reform and share your ideas to improve our current system.
you only need about 10 contiguous states with port cities to simultaneously stop cooperating with the fed regarding the commerce clause, irs, obamacare, etc. have ballot questions supporting it and then if it passes just do it. stop answering calls from the fed and the state govs stop cooperating, too. constitution is a covenant between the states to form a union. the supreme court is beholden to the feds and is incapable of honest officiating. hit the restart button.

if you repeal the 16th, you can't have a flat income tax or any income tax... that is why they passed the 16th: to make it constitutional to have an income tax. the danger in this climate is that activist judges will just declare income taxes constitutional despite the 16th being repealed. if you look at how the courts and liberals have bastardized the commerce clause and right to tax, there really are no consitutional limits on government power in their minds. we need most states to nullify

I have zero confidence Congress will make real changes to the tax code. If they do...it will be another 2000 page bill to "simplify" the current tax code with is 30,000 pages. The only for real change is to get rid of incumbents are are influenced by special interests and let party leaders have too much power to set agenda. What about an amendment to allow national referrendums...let citizen's decide and vote on new laws just like shareholders get to vote...give power back to the people!

If God only required 10%, why should the Government expect more than God? This is a basic problem, the Government thinks they ARE BETTER than GOD! If EVERYONE paid no more than 10% that seems to be a fair tax. Do away with the Tax Code. In the same change, also do away with paying for foreign students education, which is paid for from my taxes! Stop these "grants" to municipalities, that are usually from our collective Federal taxes. There is a misconception that this is FREE MONEY!

@nannybell - The problem with your theory is that corporations essentially don't pay any taxes. If you raise their taxes, they simply raise the price of their product to pay for it. In essence, YOU pay their taxes. I know it is popular to demonize corporations, but remember, without them there are NO jobs. Personally, I am not out to destroy the POTUS; I'm out to get our government to go back to its roots, stay out of my business, and do ONLY what they are constitutionally allowed to do.

A flat income tax is the most equitable form of tax. Any type of regressive tax is not acceptable i.e. sales tax, value added tax, and would include the FAIR TAX. The fair tax's pre-refund attempts to offset the regressiveness of this tax - it might achieve this at inception. Eventually this offset wiil get out of kilter and the detriment would be to the Lower and Middle income taxpayers NOT the Upper Income Taxpayers.

Thank you, again, for encouraging a forum for expression. I support a version of the FAIRTAX plan, specifically point-of-sale tax for the consumer. A plan without loopholes, as much as it might be possible. All consumers paying tax, legal or illegally here in the USA!

I believe that we have a flat tax. We could also do like they do in Europe for sales tax, include the tax in the price of an item. If something cost 10.00 then it is 10.00 not 10.80. This would help the American people budget if they knew exactly how much they would have to pay for itmes and how much would be taken out of their checks. Also, by doing a flat tax you would encourage people to be more productive because they wouldn't be penalized for making more money.

I never understood why we make the hard working American citizens pay taxes at 28 or more % of their income. Taxes should be on purchases other than maybe food and health medicines. A flat tax of 10% should be enough. Let the people keep what they earn. Pay taxes on purchases as you buy somethng pay the 10% too. A Fair Tax or Flat tax would help people to pay a given tax. The present situation only makes people angry and fustrated while trying do do it right.

Top 400 Adjusted Gross Income taxpayers in U.S. made $138 Billion but paid only 16.6% of that in taxes in 2007. Search for top 400 at IRS website.
The elite certainly have the loopholes and IRS data trends indicate a lot of that was a result of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. I'm just a shrimp in the scheme of things and am totally for shifting the tax burden back to the wealthy who have the deck stacked against us in most every other respect.
