On the first day of the Syracuse Hydrofest a serious accident occurred in heat 1b of the Grand Prix Class . Rainy and cloudy weather made visibility pretty difficult on Onondaga Lake. Pierre Maheus GP-46 ADF Diesel was stopped just past the finish line when Jimmy Shane driving the GP-7 Long Gone apparently did not see Pierre and hit him full speed tearing off the blower from the engine and hitting the back of Pierre Maheu's cockpit. The scene was scary since it took Jimmy a couple of minutes to get out of his boat which had flipped upside down in the water. As for Pierre Maheu, he was stuck in a position in which we feared the worst as it took sixty long minutes to get him out of the boat after his seat had collapse from the very hard impact. Once he was on the stretcher he lifted his arm to wave at the crowd in the pits. At this time we don't know the exact condition of both drivers. We received mixed information but the two drivers seem to be out of danger. It seems that Jimmy Shane suffered back pain and possibly water in his lungs. As for Pierre Maheu, he may have suffered back injuries. We'll try to keep you up to date with more information as it comes available.
