Paul Darrow's Avon is a perfect example of true character development. Avon began the series as an amoral, Spock-ian foil for Blake and went on to develop his own unique brand of idealism. Mostly shedding his logical side, he became daring and heroic after becoming team leader while still keeping his razor sharp wit and selfish tendencies intact.
