Yes, my mistake, goodness knows why I typed that...
The APO, for a professional orchestra, is an absolute travesty that shouldn't attempt any work of any measure. They'll cause the composers to turn in their grave. Each performance I've been to has been disappointing. Aucklanders should stick to the beaches and leave music to those with a clue.
The ASO did do quite a good "movie music" rendition when I saw them, but that's about as far as I'd expect a semi-professional orchestra to reach.
Pity they butchered such a classic piece of art... Auckland Symphony shouldn't overreach itself.
If you want to hear an excellent performance of this piece have a search for the Berliner Philharmoniker performing it in an outdoor concert at the end of their season.
I'm not sure on this, but I don't think there is ASO, you might be talking about the NZSO

FYI, this isn't Auckland Symphony Orchestra. It was played by Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra. APO and ASO are totally different.

Oh, just to add to this though - the lasers and fireworks were great though, I do always enjoy that portion of the Starlight Syphony. =)
