After the invasion of the Sudetenland by Hitler in 1938, my Grandfather having just qualified as an engineer made it to England on falsified documents. His passport bears the stamps of Sudenten German officials, Dutch and Belgian. Having reached England, his visa was stamped until 3rd September 1939 when Britain declared war on Gernany.
He was based at Leamington Spa Warwickshire and the nsent to Dumfires to take part in Operation Anthropoid-he was a freind of Josef Gabcik and Adolf Opalka and they trained here together. Granddad broke his leg in a parachute jump on the last training session so couldnt go on the mission to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, Governer General of Czechoslovakia
The team of course suceeded but had to kill themselves after a long fight with German troops who were aided by Rolf Czurda. My grandfather always felt he could have held the team together. After the war he married Florence my grandmother. They carried on engineering firms in Blackheath and retired to post office in Hnckley Leicestershire. He loved all kinds of mechanics, in particular fast cars, When he died of Leukaemia in 1984 the Czech flag was drped over his coffin. We still miss him today.

Josef a jeho přátelé okamžitě nabídl, aby se připojil k české zdarma armády. Velitelství bylo v Leamngton Lázně Warwickshire, kde se pravděpodobně setkal moje babička Florencie. On byl přítel Jozef Gabčík a Adolf Opálka a trénoval společně s Dumfires pro Anthropoid. Děda si zlomil nohu na poslední praxi běh, kdy byly Anthrpoid tým poslal zabít Heydricha. On si stěžovali, že by mohl mít v držení týmu spolu, on specilised jako Commando (inženýr) v noci nájezdy na tank depa. Obvyklou metodou bylo drop granáty dolů sudy.
Po válce zůstal v Britan a odolával bumerous pokusy vlády loutka Moskvy vrátit jako vysoký důstojník v komunistickém Československu. Navštěvoval velvyslanectví o nejméně dvou příležitostech, kdy se snímek zobrazí filmy o tom, jak skvělý život byl pod komunisty! Zůstal inženýr a odešel ke spuštění poštovního úřadu v Hinckley. Miloval rychlá auta. Stále chybět i dnes.

God bless the men who rid the world of Reinhard Heydrich The 'Blond Beast' of Prague. The bravery of the families who looked after them and the Priest who sheltered them in Saints Cryil and Methodius should be equally remembered.
