I forgot this one! and yes it was before only fools & horses, I've always said i'd seen that sketch done before, but couldn't place it, so thanks very much for posting this... i'm off to tell my mates it's here!!

@rebeccasid - The Hamlet ads may have started in 1966, but this advert dates from about 1992, so Del Boy's famous fall came first.
I think the actor in this advert is Matthew Devitt. I saw him in "Return to the Forbidden Planet" and "From a Jack to a King", and I remember his bio (circa 1993) said that he was in a Hamlet commercial.

They were great adverts

It's almost worth letting tobacco be advertised again to get these back!
-
It's air on a g string as performed by the jacque lousier trio band. He jazzes it up a bit.... Tune!

Not only "Only fools and horses" but "Mr. Bean" has to be influenced by this in the movie.

Did this come out before or after the 'Fools & Horses' scene with Del Boy leaning against the bar door that had just been opened?

only fools and horses was originally broadcast between 1981 and 1991, and the hamlet cigar slogan and entire campaign were created in 1966, so going by that, the Hamlet ad came first.
This is all from wiki...
