Oi was an offshoot of punk, more for the skins, and when punk gigs were getting more violent. The Upstarts were at the start of Oi but the real "inventors" of the (sub) genre were the Rejects. It was around this time I got fed up of "punk" and started listening to "proper" rockin places like the Swinging Sporran in Manchester...
