This video is probably a couple years old but i felt like posting something.
I used to be a delivery driver and every once in a while i would get stuck at this intersection and have to wait on these things. I never could figure out what those "giant flippers' could possibly be for until I saw a thing on discovery channel or something about building those giant wind turbines.
Details you don't care about:
1 that noise: i put velcro tape on the dashboard so i could stick my camera there.
2 This camera was a dsc with video and it would not zoom at the same time it was recording video. you would have to stop recording, zoom in, and resume recording. otherwise you would've been able to see them turning better.
3 i don't remember what i muttered right at teh end or why. Eeeh
@thetrainman407 @zeroturbulence it is now illegal is several states to have the rear escort driver steering the trailer because it has been found you can not safely steer your own Vehicle at the same time as trying to steer half of a truck. several states and provenances that do not have this lay yet are in the proses of making it a law.. you need a "tillerman" to ride in eather the pilot car and hope out at corners. ride in the truck and hope out at corners. or follow in a 3rd vehicle

@kdraper2007 I just finished up Meadow Lake IIII in July. My outfit brought in the Suzlon blades from Pipestone, Mn. The tower sections arrived via rail in Rochelle, Illinois. There were also G.E. towers going in as well out on 231 south of the 193 xit. Candian outfits hauled all of those components from out of state as well.

@Railrodder I think they've been railroading the tower sections to Remington, Indiana. where they are offloaded onto trucks & trucked to one of 2 nearby wind farm project. they've installed 300-400 wind turbines in that area in the last 2 years.

@zeroturbulence -- Most of the time when trucks have loads of this length they are put on trailers that have steerable axles. Usually the axles are controled by the driver of the rear escort car.

yea, there is a new design where its more like a tube going up that requires way less maintence

how do they turn corners with that?

Pretty amazing eh?! These things are huge! Check out my video of wind turbine tower sections being transported by CP Rail here in Ontario Canada! Thanks for sharing this! Great catch! 5/5!

Wow look at that you could stuff a bunch of mexicans in that thing and smoggle them from mexico who's going to check. They could also build it when it gets to the field too!!

they are for wind generators at wind farms. I have a friend Tony who works for a company serviceing these, and he says they require A LOT of maintenence.
