I take Bruno through the commands he knows, which only goes to prove that when he is naughty he has chosen to be naughty.

Sit - obvious.
Down - obvious, but useful for regaining control of a situation.
Fetch & Return - Good for tiring out a puppy.
Safe Tug - A good game to make tug fun and have no dominance issues. You play tug for a bit, make the dog release, then return the toy to him with lots of praise.
Drop it - for safe retrieval of toys and the food bowl.
Leave it (not included) - keeps Bruno out of the dog pile and recalls him from the cat.

  • That's Moose, he's not in the crate. He's laying on the carpet behind the crate's open door.

  • i have 2 labrador pups, 6 months old, they know "sit", "down", "paw", and are learning spin. but they still jump up at you when you first let them in from the garden and they're distroying everything! Have you any tips?

  • Make them sit before you let them inside and again when they are inside to focus and calm them. When they are calm, then you reward them with food or a pet. After that it's just repetition. Be consistent.

  • I like the safe tug. I think I will work on that with my 7 month old boxer so the 2 year old can play tug. right now its desi olds the toy and rolls on his back while the 2 year old nephew pulls and pulls. lol. Boxers are so good with kids. I have a video of desi, do you have an other suggestions for tricks??

  • They really are great dogs. Safe tug doesn't hurt anyone's feels and there is no competition or pinched fingers but you have to be consistent. Other than that, I've just been teaching them tricks that will help them to be better canine citizens like down and stay, and making sure they stick to it. I haven't taught him paw, because frankly he is already up in my face enough because he is a boxer and an attention whore. :)

  • Well, only in the rich parts of Europe, but its mainly done to rottweilers & dobbermann, thats why i thought it may of been an accident! Anyway, very beautiful dog & well behaved. My 6 months APBT/AMSTAFF mix only know "Sit" "Down" "paw". How old is Mr Bruno?

  • Thank you! Well, your Staffy is much more advanced than Bruno was at 6 months. Bruno is 11 months, a year on May 15.

  • why is there a cat in the cage back there ?

  • hahahaha, that's basically the extent of my dog's skills also. What I did was every time I wanted her to drop it, I would just stop playing but hold the rope. She loses interest because the rope has stopped moving. She drops it. As she does that, I say DROP. And then now she knows what drop is. =) Safe tage. nice.

  • Oh, no. He's a boxer, I think in Europe they leave the tails intact, but in America they still dock the tails while the pups are very young.
