It's shameful that they actually literally copy the show joke for joke. When will they learn that with humour, anything forced is not as funny?

The laugh track also kills the show.

Yeah I watched that a year or two ago. I'm glad that never took off.

I still find it interesting to watch though, and some of the casting in the US Red Dwarf worked quite well. I always wondered why they gave Kryton such a big chin though... looked weird.

But yeah, it didn't work in the exact same way as this (IT crowd US) didn't quite work.

Well.. it could be worse. If you ever managed to see the (never aired, AFAIK) pilot episode of the US version of Red Dwarf. It took many of the well known jokes from the first season or two (or series, as you guys seem to call it) of the original and cram them into that pilot. But completely ruined the jokes as they apparently decided to just skip half the setup/context, which made them funny in the first place. And like this, it had one original UK version actor playing the same role.

I noticed so many changes in the first episode alone, the remake seems better planned, written and directed.

As a Brit myself, I think it is important for any US people watching this to understand that I think we are very protective over this show. I don't think anyone really means offence over it.

I suppose the equivelent would be a British version of Cheers, almost word for word. I think anyone from the US would find it weird and have the same reaction.

Regarding the difference between the two, I'd say the UK version is more subtle, leaving more to the imagination. It is also a bit grubbier & dirty
