**PLEASE READ THIS** I haven't had this configuration for almost 2 years now, so I can't help you with Alesis I/O settings or other setup questions. I've been using a TD-12 kit since October 2009 and gave up on the DIY e-kit even before that. Best of luck to all of you going this route. It's filled with headaches.

Another demonstration of my DIY acoustic-to-electronic kit being triggered by the Alesis Trigger IO trigger-to-MIDI device.

Playing some different grooves using different S2.0 kit pieces and mixer settings.

Groove 1
-13" piccolo snare
-14x24" GMS kick drum
-13" Sabian HHX Revolution hi-hats
-"Natural" mixer preset

Groove 2
-14" Black Beauty snare
-14x24" GMS kick drum
-16" Sabian hand hammered crash hi-hats

Groove 3
-14" Slingerland snare
-18x22" GMS double headed kick
-16" Sabian hand hammered crash hi-hats

Groove 4
-14" Rogers snare
-14x24" GMS kick
-14" hi-hats
-Dry kit mixer preset

Groove 5
-Pre-recorded drum/snare groove using only room mics
-14" Nir-Z snare
-14x24" GMS kick
-14" hi-hats

Hope you like 'em. Comment :)

  • very impressive sound and playing.

one question: are all the instruments from this demos from the basic sd 2.0 package or do i need the lost NY Studios expansion as well?

  • @jhueni for this video, everything was from the base SD 2.0 library (Avatar studio)

  • Is there any chance you'd be willing to share your settings for the trigger IO. I bought one and am using it with a roland kit (no roland brain) and am having a hard time getting it to sound right. Your kit sounds very expressive and natural. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • @royalbastardo Sorry, I don't have this setup anymore. I have a Roland TD-12 kit now and I don't know what the Trigger IO parameters were set to back then. Thanks for watching/commenting :)

  • Man, this is awesome!! What hihat controller are you using?

  • @rastusthecat

I'm using a DIY homemade controller based on the Michael Beatnik design. It's basically a Lutron light dimmer switch inside a Radio Shack project box soldered to a 1/4" female jack. The sliding dimmer switch pokes out of the side of the project box & is attached via picture wire to the hi-hat foot pedal. The project box clamps onto the hi-hat stand & then I adjusted tension from there to sync up hi-hat travel & switch travel

  • Hey sounds great. What did you record the drums on? In other words, what program and config, if you can remember. Appreciate any feedback you can give me!

  • Dumb question - when I add plugins to my drum module - does it really matter if it's td 12 or td 4 ?

  • Hey I see your note about you no longer having this set up. I'm just curiouse as to why to changed out sets. I am currently contemplating going Superior drummer 2.0 for my live drums and seeing as you changed, I'm wondering if I should reconsider. Any advise.

  • great sound!

  • @FreetoSessions Idk man, Ive been playing for 19 yrs and these drums sound pretty real to me. Not trying to knock you homie. Just sayin.

  • @MINIMI95020 If your kick drum is bouncing too much , Get some gorilla glue and cut out a circle of egg crate foam. Apply a little glue on the back of the egg crate foam piece and lay the crate foam in the place where your kick mallet will hit the mesh head. This will keep your e kick from bouncing so much. I just had to do this last night. Works like a charm.

  • Very nice . I've bought a Trigger IO in these days but I have to choose the pads. Which pads are you using?

  • i want to trigger my drum bass, and i got the trigger io, but i can't really get things right, can you help me?

  • You are my savior! I am breaking my head on thinking what to do to get an acoustic kit acting like an electronic drum kit, and I think this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Three questions I still have:

    - What are the components I need and what are the total costs?

    - The snare seems a bit adynamic, every hit is hard or is it just your playing? What about crosssticks and rimshots? Is that possible?

    - Is it loud when you do not amplify this?

  • Is the snare DIY or a Roland? I made a DIY but have not dialed it in that well.
