On Monday Sept. 21, children from Montessori Community School (MCS) in Makiki sang the final part of a song heard around the world to celebrate peace. The song "Light a Candle for Peace," by Shelley Murley started in New Zealand, and was continuously sung for 24 hours by children from one time zone to the next. The song reached Honolulu at 10:50 a.m.
MCS students from age 2 through sixth grade took turns singing. As the song finished, a handful of parents in attendance received red roses from the students to remind them of the experience throughout the day.
Montessori schools promote peace among students. Montessori Community School is an independent, non-sectarian school providing a Montessori education for children ages 2 through 12 years.
