It might seem that Flickr, the photo sharing site, has wrapped it all up, right? Not yet.

The creators of an app now in beta called Rrripple have developed what they say is a more secure, more flexible and easier-to-use approach to sharing a variety of media.

In this building43 video interview, Heather Hiles, co-founder and CEO, discusses Rrripple's philosophy and emphasis on security.

Hiles also shows off a flashy new user interface that makes sharing photos and other media (spreadsheets, PDFs, videos) with groups of people easier and simpler.

While Rrripple's target audience is the general public, she says, the software application also is being tested by a charter school operation called "Leadership Public Schools" as a way of providing a secure, online teaching environment for high school students.

Rrripple, which was founded in April 2008 and received $185,000 in seed funding in June 2009, was launched during the recent TechCrunch50 2009 technology conference in San Francisco.

Development continues and an iPhone app is in the works.
