Recent variation of Methane with latitude and time showing seasonal variations. Atmospheric Methane concentrations derived from Antarctic Ice cores varied between around 350ppb and 700ppb through the Ice Ages over the past 800,000 years (at least), but since the industrial revolution have increased to around 1800ppb and are still increasing. Methane is a significant "Greenhouse" gas. Data courtesy of NOAA ESRL.
