@janrlf McCandless may have been from the city but he knew what he was doing or else he would have died 3 days after treking out into the alaskan wild. He survived 113 days out there. He knew what he was doing. He just a very poor mistake by eating those berries.

@anathemapariah because some people appreciate the real story/origins of such masterpieces . . . Does it really matter? No, just a courtesy for artists and music lovers. I personally feel that Jerry Hannan's vocals exude more emotion in his version. Eddie is a vocal genious yes, but the song takes on a different power with Jerry's vocals...it's these sublties that some appreciate knowing...

I got goose pimples reading your post, credit to you for taking your kids on such a wonderful adventure ,my dad did the same fro me when I was a kid we camped up on the lake lough ree ,he's 83 now he gave up on the lake a long time ago but evry so ofthen it comes up in conversation ...good times great times happy memories ..much love and respect to you and your boys ,I hope you get to make many more beautiful memeories ..keep on rocking in the free world ..

Well, i just wanted to add, What is said at the end of the story is so true,

Happiness is true only if it is shared.

I travelled with what is the most precious to me, my little boys.

All the nice landscapes i've seen were ten times nicer 'coz i could see them in their eyes too, and their happiness make everything more beautiful.

I think, you always shoud share nice things you live with s.o. else

2 years ago, i bought an old Kombi vw , i made a kind of bed inside, my guitar, my two little boys, and we left home, i crossed my whole country without any roadmap, just driving on the small roads, we listened to the cd of eddie vedder,

When i listen these songs now, i have all those memories that come into my mind.

i think that if I could, I would have found a bigger truck and never came back home,

Just keep on moving and live the most possible in the nature,
