As someone who also performs and composes with a laptop, we've only just begun to scratch the surface with the capabilities of what today's computers can do to create, enhance and enrich "electronic" or modern experimental sound-art. why do you care? the end result is music so what does do the semantics matter?

A laptop is a TOOL, not a INSTRUMENT. Please stop mixing the 2, there is a difference. Still can't say that it can't be used to make music but it IMMOLATES/IMITATES analogue/natural sounds, therefore it can't be considered a instrument. Same with the MIDI controllers.
