In 1999, we visited Crestline, Ohio for the fifth consecutive year, and found that many changes had taken place as a result of the Conrail break-up. A new connector track was installed on the northwest quadrant of the crossing. To make room for this under the bridge, the ex-PRR mainline was shoved about fifty feet south and a new diamond installed. The result was the station platform being isolated. The PRR position light signal was removed and an NYC tri-light was placed at the new diamond. Norfolk Southern owns the PRR east of here, and CSX to the west. CSX also owns the ex-Conrail "Bee Line" which crosses here.
A ballast train with two GP38's running "pull-pull" style, leaves the yard, and utilizes the new connector track to enter the "Bee Line." Despite the Conrail power, this technically is a CSX train. After entering the "Bee Line," he changes direction and heads south to the maintenance sight.
I have not been to Crestline since. Does anyone have any updates on the junction and train frequency?
The old roundhouse and surrounding buildings are being demolished. Not sure what CSX has in store there, or it could be the city doing the land reclamation. Not sure on that.
The old AmShack is still there, but is almost entirely overcome by vegetation.
There seems to be little if any use of the old PRR line East of Bucyrus anymore.
