Excerpts of a tabla solo, recorded in 2003 at an event called 'Tabla Power'* at the University of Toronto. Compositions include peshkar, kayda, gat, paran and rela.
My tabla blog of mini tabla solos is here: http://52kaidas.blogspot.com/

Thanks to my generous tabla teachers: Ritesh Das, Swapan Chaudhuri, Anindo Chatterjee and Subhajyoti Guha.

Suba and I play with the band Autorickshaw:

*the event was originally called 'tabla! Tabla! TABLA!', but the northeast blackout on Aug 14, 2003 postponed it. Hence 'Tabla Power'.

Props to Mandeep S., who motivated me to put this up on the 'tube.

  • Can someone please link to a tabla video which is even cooler than this one? I would really like to see such a clip. Then I would right the same message there, and eventually, I would have a canon of awesome tabla videos.

  • bahut khub...what a performance !!!..

  • Excellent, I like the way Swapanji plays this , the second part is a ustad Ahmed Jaan thirakwa composition, Anindoji plays this with such grace and definition.

  • the sound is just annoying.. sounds like theres not enough powder looool dryish sounds

other than that. the play is simply amazin.g

  • @bbst4 Many thanks... URL in the description: brilliant!

  • @talawallah Why not put the URL in the video description then? :) Nice playing, by the way. :)

  • @talawallah I've already checked it out. Very cool project you're working on.
