The Collective Opposed to Police Brutality (COBP) 13th International Protest Against Police Brutality Protest of March 15, 2009, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. At around 2:30pm, at the corner of rue St. Denis and Sherbrooke Street, it looks like someone in the crowd of protesters threw a stun grenade at the line of riot police blocking access to rue St. Denis below Sherbrooke Street. The first stun grenade seen in this video goes off at the 21 second mark to the left of the police line and appears to have been thrown at the police. At the 45 second mark a second smoke bomb is seen. At first I thought that this smoke bomb was tear gas used by the police to disperse the crowd, and one person exposed to the smoke affirms that it is tear gas when I ask him, but I don`t believe that it was actual tear gas and it may have been another smoke bomb thrown by a protester rather than the police. It is also possible that it was a pepper-spray grenade used by the police to try to disperse the crowd of protesters.

This video, and all other videos of this anti-police brutality protest, were shot in 720p HD video using my Nikon D90 DSLR with an 18-200mm Nikkor VR lens. The picture is a lot sharper than this compressed YouTube video appears which looks rather "soft" to me.

  • Wonder what would happend to our world if every countrys army & law enforcements units would stop up holding the law, peace etc...then we will see how many will like the police & army. I bet most of the peeps who hate police would cry to them to get back on their job.

Humans are stupid, that ones a sure thing...

  • @WhiteFang103 Your point is well taken. This is a protest against police brutality. i.e. Abuse of power by police. Yes this annual protest does attract a radical element that "hate police" as it were, but I would say that most of the participants in this protest are not against "good cops" just against those "bad cops" who abuse their power in one way or another.

  • @RobinEdgar A anual protest? Really? That kinda takes the power out of protesting imo. You protest because something happens that you don't agree with. Like if you find out that let's say the mayor is corrupt or something, you go protest about that. But you don't protest anually against mayors in general because they could be corrupt. I hope i'm making sence in explaining this. Anual protests which stand for nothing really just attract bad crowd, people looking to riot for the fun of it.

  • @DavidSlagter There are very few, if any, years that go by without *some* serious police brutality occurring in Montreal, to say nothing of other cities in the "Western World". This year there were several incidents of brutality including the lethal shooting of a knife wielding "street person" and (accidental) shooting of a completely innocent pedestrian who was in the right place (going to work at a nearby hospital) but at the wrong time. . .

  • Poordog

  • Throw c4 on them

  • It seems to me that throwing felony-illegal and absurdly dangerous flash powder bombs at police would earn you a bullet in the face.

They put up with so much more than they reasonably ought to.

  • did i just see an anonymous guy at 0:04?

  • @RobinEdgar Well ofcourse I don't know the history of your city so I don't know how bad it is there. But having such a anual riot is not gonna solve things. Nobody is going to take the protesters serious. That's my view anyway.

  • gotta love that teargas guy

  • Dumb faggots appreciate your freedom.

  • is the police force different compared to america's?
