This is version 3.0 of my video about a trip back in time to the era when bulletin board systems ruled the earth. It's a capture of a PCBoard BBS session of my old BBS. Not 100% functional, but enough to get a nostalgic kick out of it hehe.

If you are a Sysop or oldschool scener and miss the time when you dialed your local BBS (or not so local one via blue boxing or calling cards hehe) and had fun there, this video is for you.

A good old dosis of PCB smell does not hurt anybody. :) To learn more about my old BBS, visit

2. "Do you wanne .. yep" by Paso
3. "Hei gonna chip" by Laxity/Scoopex

Cheers!

  • awesome. i got to hear the modem, and you added music so it doesnt stay silent the whole time. that music sounds alot like future crew. is it them?

  • @thunderscratch66 Nope, the first tune is by Jozz/TRSI ("cognition"), the 2nd by Pase ("do you wanne .. yep") and the last one by Laxicty/Scoopex ("hei gonna chip")

  • @thunderscratch66 arghs.. Paso not Pase :)

  • It's fast. A Telnet session? In the Era of the BBS this would have been at 14.4k (before compression)!

  • @joe72205 Sysop Node on the PC directly. Noticed the PCBoard Management Console screen at the beginning of the video? :)

  • I ran several BBS's back in the early to mid 90's and am glad to see others miss this as much as i do. I really think at times that we should go back to this technology over IP (there are BBS's still running today with IP>COM emulators)

Keep up the old memories of PCB... I remember all the PPE's and etc... And what about all the transport protocols? Zmodem HSPlit ?

  • Oh god, I am glad that we left the time of Zmodem behind us and advanced to HSLink. I was chatting all the time.. something that you got to do as a sysop of a multi-node bbs hehe. But I also paged the sysops of boards that I called myself. Links are not allowed in YouTube comments. I will shoot you a note (where links are not clickable anymore either, but at least not blocked entirely) :(

  • I miss the BBS days. Ran a Renegade board with a 28.8 in the 90s. had some good times there. met some cool people I still talk to ;)

  • He He, I started with a 300 baud modem in the first half of the 80's. Almost started a BBS by late off of 80's, but din't have time...

Ball mice, DOS 2.1, floopy drives, then a 5 Meg hard disk and a 1200 baud modem on 4.77MHZ at 8 bits and 4 colors on the screen and a sound blaster - hot gaming system!

Sent first e-mail across USA by mid 80's - BBS relay

  • soo beautiful

  • what's the music from?? sounds great!

  • this is an advanced board.. around here we were lucky to see text pictures lol.. 2400 baud ftw 150 bucks for a 14.4 woot :D
