Actually the money you leave in the bank isn't necessarily used to purchase assets. In fact most of your money is just lent out to others for interest far higher than what they pay you for depositing it. I think fractional banking allows banks to only keep only 10% of your deposit on hand. But yes, gambling public retirement funds in equities is reprehensible.
The answer...seems like people have to rise up against their governments otherwise nothing will change.

Only Fox news reports that meetings in Washington have been held, and that the Obama Master plan (and proclaimed solution to your scenerio) is to nationalize all of the 401K assets into the Social Security Administration. This they say will bail out SS, and protect your money. The trick is your will be powerless to withdraw your money once the Government takes control of it. There is no other word for this action but communism.

Nice to see your face Sir. I have been enjoying your videos. My 401K has lost 25% since Monday and the corp that I work for has limited our choices in where we could put our money. I don't have very much in there. In fact, very little and now even less. I don't know what to do except put my faith in the good Lord Jesus.
