Yes, I do believe you but I do not understand why? The combustion gases have to pass the valve no matter if there is a pipe or not? Or does the hot valve burn away because of the oxygen in the surrounding air?

you do know the 4-stroke can be piston damaged running it without muffle?
It needs the preassure wich is provided by th4e muffle, that's why some times
putting bigger outcome lowers the power, not increases.

cause there has to be at leats 30 cm of exhaust pipe after the valve
(sealed proprly)
or else the heat will burn your valve
