If policies are not changed the Ministry of Natural Resources may permit the privatization of over $10B worth of publicly owned waterfalls and other clean energy resources. This "giveaway" represents over 86 lost opportunities for communities and future generations of Ontarians since billions will flow into private and foreign companies for the benefit of their shareholders. Profiteering like this is not sustainable and may result in a negative economic effect on Ontario. Public Benefit Community Power works within existing policy frameworks and offers an alternative to profiteering from publicly owned clean energy resources and also provides a method of achieving local control and benefit.
Accordingly, let's ask all candidates, if elected, will you:
■ oppose the privatization of publicly owned waterfalls and crown land for energy projects?
■ support policies that give communities the right of first refusal to develop publicly owned clean energy resources for the public benefit?
■ support a Community Feed-In-Tariff to help communities develop clean energy projects for the public benefit?
■ enable Public Benefit Community Power by creating programs that expand a province wide network of regionally controlled Public Benefit Clean Energy Developers?
