Taras Bulba is a romanticized short historical novel by Nikolai Gogol. It tells the story of an old Ukrainian Cossack, Taras Bulba, and his two sons, Andriy and Ostap. Taras' sons studied at the Kyiv Academy and return home. The three men set out on a journey to Zaporizhian Sich located in modern-day Ukraine, where they join other Cossacks and go to war against the Polish nobles...

Gogol wrote this story in Russian!!!!!!!!!!! And he was a greatest Ukrainian and Russian writer.

In 16th century there wasn't such country as Ukraine. It was Rus and "Ukraine" was part of it. Study russian history before writing comments.

I am very fond of Gogol he makes laugh in every line he writes but in Taras Bolba he was serious , I mean less laughing ,

Ponakręcają sobie różnych Bulbów oraz 1612. Postrzelają z drewnianych armat i pokonają husarię a na końcu nawet sami w to uwierzą. Jeszcze niech nakręcą film jak polskie dzieci z Wołynia mordują bezbronnych bohaterów z dUPA :-)

I don't understand why you guys are all wrong. Gogol wrote two versions of this. The first in Ukrainian, but then shortly thereafter, knowing of the Ems Declaration (banning of the Ukrainian language in the Russian empire), he wrote another in Russian.

Just like Robert Conquest, leave it to Westerners to teach you Russians your own history (coming from your own archives of course)

А Гоголю просто хотелось кушать, вот он и писал на более широкую публику. Тем более, что украинский язык у московитов был не в почете. Впрочем, как и всегда (смотреть в википедии "Эмский указ" и "Валуеский циркуляр")

Московитская интерпретация. Предали украинцев и Переяславську Раду в войне с поляками. Под вопли про православие московиты уничтожили Сечи. Последний гетьман умер на Соловках. А до того никакой частью московии Украина не была.
