Need You Now Ch. 21

It took Nick some time to get completely back to normal. He was glad to be awake, but he was apprehensive to drive again. He was scared he would crash again. Every time he got in a car, he would practically cling to his seatbelt.

Nick also had to take naps, because he was tired more as he recuperated. I kissed his head softly after tucking him in to his afternoon nap. When I turned away, he latched onto my hand. "Please don't go," he whimpered. He also hated being left alone.

"Baby, I will. Joey's gonna come in while I'm downstairs, ok?" I said softly. He didn't let go of my hand until Joe walked in and climbed under the covers with him. I kissed his hand softly before tip toeing out the room.

I found Paul and Denise in the living room, watching some movie on TV. I sat on the long couch and looked at the two of them. Paul muted the program. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"I was wondering, if maybe I could take Nick back with me to Nashville. I bought a house. It's secluded in the outskirts of the city. He'll be away from the traffic and the paparazzi. I think he needs time."

Paul and Denise looked at me for a few moments in total silence, then at each other. It was as if they were having a silent discussion, and by the nod they shared, an agreement. I bit my bottom lip lightly, waiting for their answer.

"I think it would be good for him," Denise finally said. I perked up immediately. "You can leave tomorrow afternoon. I think two weeks will be a good time. Let it be all about the two of you, ok? Stay there, go one dates...just be a couple in love."

I smiled as she pulled me into a hug. I hugged her back, thinking about my own mother as she embraced me. I was happy that it was just going to be and Nick, just us and no one else. Paul put all of the details together for our flight over while Denise helped me pack for Nick. She promised to take care of Lexi for me. And keep an eye on Hunter while she was at it.

The next morning, I woke up to Lexi crawling into bed with me and snuggling into my side. Then I smelt fresh pancakes and sausage. I opened my eyes to see Hunter carrying a tray of food. I grinned up at him happily and sat up.

"I thought breakfast in bed would be nice," he explained, placing the tray on my lap.

"Very nice," I smiled, pecking his cheek.

We chatted while we ate. Lexi wanted extra syrup, which Hunter was not having. Her pout was too much for me to resist. When Hunter wasn't looking, I poured a bit more over her pancakes. She grinned up before starting to eat again.

After breakfast, I took a long, relaxing, warm shower. I shaved my legs, washed my hair, washed my body clean and soaked in the steam from the scorching water. When I got out, the mirrors were fogged up.

The only makeup I put on was eye shadow and mascara. I pulled my hair up into a messy bun, put on a pullover from my old high school and a pair of short jean shorts, then walked into my bedroom. Hunter was sitting on my bed.

"I packed your bags in your truck," he said, kissing my forehead when I was near enough. "Nick doesn't have a clue. Everything's set. All you have to do is drive to the airport. We'll keep in touch."

"You make it sound like I'm leaving for good," I giggled.

"No, I'm sounding like a protective big brother," he smiled.

"Is that what they call over-worrying these days?" I asked, winking. He just chuckled and pulled me into his strong arms for a tight hug.
