They had the "Magic" It's had to find another female singer today that can even come close to Karen's rich voice and her capability to play an instrument, as she did with the drums, with such precision. No one else compares

@improvguru The media had started the 'slender is beautiful' ideal around about the start of the sixties but again I am not saying this would be the only cause.Its so complicated that I couldn,t really go into it. Like other mental illnesses its an individual thing,no two person are alike but psychiatrists can list common causes.

@improvguru You do know that people can keep feelings about themselves bottled up.She was chubby around the age of 11 or 12 and one does not have to be bullied about ones body to feel negatively about it.
-
this would be the most accurate on-screen-documentary of the Carpenters ever, since most info is from Richard
-
@shinjunks I believe she is from America, but her ethnicity is Japanese.

@roscoegino oh cool. thank you!

Karen did indeed leave behind her friends and scholarships in the move to Downey, but she was NOT bullied or called fat in school. she was extraordinarily popular, was chosen first for sports teams, and would defend Richard against bullies. She had a lot of friends, but until the book "Little Girl Blue," they chose to protect her memory and not speak of her.
I wish people would stop posting obvious lies. Karen's weight was not an issue for her until 1975.
