UEFA Champions League Qualifier 1st leg

Linfield took on BATE in their first competitive game of the season, Linfield took the lead early on with goal from Daryl Fordyce, after some neat play between Michael Carvill and right back Jim Ervin who crossed for Fordyce to get in front of the defender to head the ball home.

On the 37th min of the game, The Blues conceeded a penalty when defender David Armstrong was deemed to have handled the ball, Renan stepped up for BATE who sent goalkeeper Alan Blayney the wrong way and placed the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net in front of the Kop Stand to give the team from Beleraus an away goal.
