Well my old vocal teacher told me that (especially if you're still a beginner) the most important thing when singing is hitting the right notes, so probably they'd check your range (what note you can do comfortably) then make you practice a song that fits your range and voice type appropriately. I'm guessing even if it's something simple like 'happy birthday'. Obviously you get better with training. Anyone can be a decent singer if they train.
