  • This overture was written in 1826, when the genius Mendelssohn was just 17 years old. Just nine years later, at the age of 26, he became the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, the same orchestra playing in this video. The orchestra at that time had already been in existence some 90 years.
