The Railway Touring Company ran The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express tour from Manchester Victoria over Shap and returning to Man Victoria later that afternoon via The Settle and Carlisle line. Ian Rileys two Black 5s 48871 and 45407 ( The Lancashire Fusilier ) hauled the train and are first seen at Scorton on the way to the water stop at Carnforth sporting a strange headboard and a chalked on train code . The next clip sees the two Stanier fives working hard up the 1 in 75 grade past Shap Wells towards Shap Summit . The return leg sees the locos on the climb towards a snowy Aisgill summit . Thanks to all involved with the tour and the hard working crews and support staff. Thanks also to Leon for onboard updates.

  • That was a fantastic film Steve. The snowy scenery in the back ground was a wonderful backdrop to my favourite view of steam at Ais Gill. I've always preferred the scenery and view as steam climbs the shelf at Mallerstang to the top of the climb. Fantastic shot, well done. Barry

  • @bkendlerA4 . Thanks Barry , as soon as I spotted the snow covering the tops at Aisgill I just had to go to film from there as I had planned to do Crosby Garret but that was fogged out as was Kirkby Stephen . Steve

  • Beautiful. Being there must have been a thrill.

  • @ncplantdoctor . Thanks for the kind words and it was a fair old sight and sound thats for sure. Steve

  • Superb as usual - Tally -Ho , a hunting we will go - glad you got the horn on the sound track. The scenery was stunning in the dusk glow. thank you. John

  • @snowjohnb . Thanks John, the hunting horn was a perfect addition to the video I must admit . Regards Steve
