"To The Gory End," track 6 and the title track from Cancer's 1st album, To The Gory End (1990)
Death Metal

Lyrics:
Hooks cutting through your flesh
No comparison of pleasure and pain
Black box, it's (a) gory treat
Mutilation from hell

To the gory end, as they make you ride the blade
To the gory end, as your life will now fade

Crave for blood, unnatural greed
Stuck in hell forever more
Ultimate pain, blooded corpse
Living memory known deceased

To the gory end, as they make you ride the blade
To the gory end, as your life will now fade

See the masters of gore
Stricken with pain in Hell

Hooks cutting through your flesh
No comparison of pleasure and pain
Black box, (is a) gory treat
Mutilation from hell

To the gory end, as they make you ride the blade
To the gory end, as your life will now fade

Crave for blood, unnatural greed
Stuck in hell forever more
Ultimate pain, blooded corpse
Living memory known deceased

  • in 84 mantis turned into death possessed had already recorded death metal. i say jeff...but chuck is still in my opinion the one who made death metal what it was to become.

  • @slayer666ish Jeff - Possessed!!!!!!!!!!

  • @moparmonster1965 And I forgot the band that got me into heavy music, Rigor Mortis. They were more thrashy, but had the B-horror flick lyrics that would later define death metal.

  • There's no doubt that Slayer was tremendously influencial in metal, laying the groundwork for Possessed and Death, as was Celtic Frost (Hellhammer).

I don't think there's any way to determine who the first death metal band was because Necrophagia, Death, and Possessed all formed in 1983, and released music the following year, with Necrophagia following in 1985. And there's also Repulsion, who released their first demo in 1986.

  • @slayer666ish you are forgetting possessed know your history

  • @mkhedart0mt0avari agreed i don't enjoy Dying Fetus quite as much as most metal i listen to but there Far from being talent less or bad... i mean there are many metal fans that don't like really old school stuff but that doesn't mean there wrong for it? It simply means that for some reason that bands sound isn't pleasing to there ears and who are we to tell someone what to listen to. The fact that we single out individuals for liking certain music just makes us seem closed minded and ignorent.

  • greatest cancer song hands down

  • I don't think Dying Fetus are that bad. But I wouldn't call them death metal so much as deathgrind.

  • Death created death metal
