hmm. i mean, erging itself is absolute death if you do it right. but i just don't see the biceps, back and abs workouts generating enough pull on the chain for there to be any worth in doing it. i mean, the erg was designed for ROWING and not this kinda stuff so it generates maximum resistance with a full stroke while still working all of the areas these guys are trying to separate into different workouts.
in short, just learn how to use it THE RIGHT WAY and you'll get better results.

Since Rowbics is based around teaching the general public to row, it is the program's responsibility to teach it properly - which they don't. Every single participant in this video is using poor form. They're being taught to perform bicep curls, body twists and crunches on the erg, which are bad for the chain on the machine and waste the time of others who want to use the rowing machine for its intended purpose. These gimmicks may seem "innovative" to you, but they are in fact a waste of time.
Rowers! You are too harsh! These classes introduce the general public to rowing and the incredible fitness benefits you can achieve on an erg. Young, old, inactive, fit. Most cant do 45min pieces that even rowers dont like, so if the routine is broken up with some unorthodox exercises, who cares! We want them to LIKE rowing! I think it is innovative and u should be thankful that Rowbics is promoting a sport that doesnt get the attention it deserves. I am!

Taken from the Rowbics web site:
"...you can minimize back pain caused by muscle imbalances and reduce risk of injury."
Good luck reducing back pain by erging.
