@amitabho123 But, Ivy League schools aren't the only ones that matter; they're not the only "good colleges". Well, this chat has gone on long enough LoL I've shared my view that just because a college has an ad doesn't make them a bad college. (Besides, even Chanel has adverts in magazines and everyone knows who they are). I just had to to defend my school, to me (and 50,000 others) it's the best school in the nation :) I hope it all works out for political science for you :) Best of Luck!

@musicisfreedom10 Ah. I'm afraid that's not a very viable strategy for me, given that I'm planning to study political science. I suppose Ohio State or UC San Diego would be awesome for this, but Harvard and Columbia are pretty much the top in that category, so...

@amitabho123 Ahh, I see. Well, you should go on Wikipedia and look up UT Austin, I think you’ll be kind of surprised (and hopefully impressed) by how much prestige it actually does have. When I was 14, I was dying to go to Colombia, but dreams change. Now I'm at UT Austin studying Bilingual Education. UT's College of Education is ranked 2nd in the nation so even though Harvard and Colombia are great schools, it wouldn't have made much sense for me to go there for an Education degree :)

@musicisfreedom10 No, lol, I'm fourteen.

@amitabho123 Do you go to Harvard?
-
@musicisfreedom10 Exactly. Any university synonymous with excellence gets its message out by 'free advertising' and word of mouth, not paid ads.
-
@amitabho123 Except that they have the biggest ad of all! Hollywood! Legally Blonde, Gilmore Girls, Stealing Harvard, Good Will Hunting, etc. Yes, they're a good school, but they've been around since the 1600s! They've had plenty of time to get it all right and become well known. I don't see the harm in reaching out to people, in fact, I think it's smart and actually makes them a good college. Not every college can be Harvard.
-
@musicisfreedom10 There are no real Harvard ads. Googled it.
The thing is, any really respectable, non-sports-focused college (Stanford is a sports-oriented kind of school due to the money and prestige it brings in, so they attempt to attract the American football-watching demographic) will not have a commercial.
I've realized after watching these "We're Texas" ads, that the voice over actor is the same as that used in the Whataburger ads. Hook'em Horns.
