I think it's most important to not project our own experiences and feelings onto others, who after all, have different challenges and issues and who, gasp, may not be affected at all by things that have traumatized us and impacted our self-esteem. We are all too good at saying because I had no self-esteem or felt bad about myself that all obese people surely must. I don't think that's fair or even true. Social acceptance is important; not everyone can afford or be a candidate for WLS.

@daphnehatesderby Shouldn't the movement be called "Healthy Size Acceptance" (or something of that adage) then? To me, it's the word "fat" that changes the meaning of it and places the emphasis on this size rather than health. I don't want ANYONE to hate themselves, and I am 100% in favor of equality and acceptance. It's just that as someone who's been on both sides of the scale, I do recognize how I used "acceptance" to remove some of my own personal responsibility.

@AntiPCTruthseeker Hmmm. How many people do you know who actually WANT to be fat? I'm not sure I understood what you meant by that.

My view is this: You want to be fat, do it on your OWN dime. Just don't get health insurance...otherwise other people's premiums will go up. Don't complain if you get charged for two seats--if you're using it, you're going to pay for it. And don't complain if you can't find someone.

@imtorontobatman As far as women being outspoken, I'm actually more outspoken about it now as a thinner person than I ever was an an obese person. Unfortunately, I think that's because the way I look now dictates how much people will listen to me - I have more of a voice as a thinner person, which is a perfect example of the type of bias obese patients face. Take a listen to my latest radio show backstagepassradio with the dot then the com for the program on bias. :)

@imtorontobatman I get what you're saying, and I do think there's murky waters here and it can sometimes lead to acceptance of an unhealthy way of life. BUT, while there as truths in almost every stereotype, weight and size discrimination is real. People are getting paid less, losing jobs, being denied rights based solely on their size. It's not just a matter of personal preference, but a real difference in actual civil rights. (continued)

@divataunia well I dont see this ACCCEPTANCE for all. I truthfully dont. I honestly only see these types of videos as a shove in the face to other people. On the other hand, women tend to be more outspoken about their emotions and lead to this. I dont discriminate people, but i'll have my opinions as you do.
My bigger beef is, who is this for? Yourself? other women? men? modelling agencies? If you want my honest opinion, I could give a RAT'S ASS, about other people's looks. Do you really want models to change? Does it matter? Should we all just give in, and say hey lets all be fat... Stop fighting for others acceptance and accept yourself. Fat women have called me to skinny before to feel better about themselves. GOOD FOR THEM.

@imtorontobatman I don't think you're being honest if you say you don't care about others looks. We all do, it's built into our society and the way we judge other people and you'd have to be a pretty unique individual to not have your opinions swayed by that at some point or another - dating, work, society or otherwise. For me, it's not about myself specifically, but about the way we interact with each other in society as a whole.

I really detest this. REALLY. I hate it that women shove down our throats that fat is beautiful and thats that. Alright, why not BROKE and beautiful men? Why not NO LICENSE OR CAR men? I understand the women's lib that was before to get decent jobs and respect... but I'm tired of this whine and whine about acceptance for all this and that when it comes down to they're own stubborness and laziness.. Yes, remaining fat is LAZY.

@imtorontobatman but about discrimination. Your comment is a perfect example. People place judgement on obese people based on their own personal prejudices. I think we have the ability to be both: encouraging in adapting a healthy lifestyle AND accepting of the beauty in all shapes and sizes - both men and women. I don't think *anyone* should be discrimated against - we all have our various baggage and past. Acceptance for all, I think. Happy Holidays!
