Part two is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAlzUGIrDn0 Most comedians from the Music Hall days sound as funny as a station announcement by today's standards - but a precious few come up as fresh as a daisy. Maxie is one such.

This was recorded near the end of his career - and the end of Music Hall - at the Metropolitan, Edgware Road, London (it's a supermarket now) in 1957 and released on a 10" album. A rare thing in those days.

Incidentally, sorry about the picture - I should have cut a still from one of his live performances - but never mind. Enjoy listening to an early master of standup. And if you have a moment, you can read about Times Gone By if you hit: "The World According To Cornelius" at http://corneliusatloppers.wordpress.com/

  • This is absolutely brill. And I heard part 2 first!

  • max was an absolute genius i can't get enough of the old comedians and i'm 24 so by rights i should like the new age comedians but they don't make me laugh as much as the old greats

  • This man was an absolute genius, one of the funniest men to ever grace the boards. He was a comedy legend, there has never been, and never will be anyone funnier. Wonderful.

  • really great...thanks.

    now for part 2

  • @davidwrightatloppers I'll be here for part two, for sure, and wishing there was a 3rd part, he was way before my time, but timeless, absolutely brilliant, his timing and delivery, perfect

  • I stayed for part two, thanks for the memories.

  • Brilliant - Now for Part 2

  • My dad loved this man, i'am only 46 and to me he's just so so funny.I'll be there for part 2

  • He also played guitar, Max Miller the first Rock Star!!! It's amazing that most of the jokes he cracked are still doing the rounds, slightly changed, but still pure Miller. There will never be another!!
