- however the agiel causes her pain also implying that this is not the natural order of things - she cannot be male - it takes a man under her control who is not the agressive male stereotype to show her that both genders are capeable of being more than the dominant man and the submissive woman - that neither stereotype is truly applicable to either gender.
- except that it is wielded by a woman against a man - making this the ultimate tool of feminism, she has inverted the gender roles becoming herself the male rapist
This would make a fascinating study of gender politics - the Agiel is a blatantly phallic symbol that causes pain in anyone it touches it's repeated use eventually causes total submission in the victim which means that this is essentially a metaphor for rape
The Agiel is a red rod hanging from a gold chain, certainly not a circle. In the books it's described as slightly smaller than what you see in the episode, but otherwise it's pretty spot on.
what episode was this scene???

Hmmm a red leather rod that causes pain and submissiveness and love - can we say phallic symbolism - a Psychiatrist would have a field day with this!

Where'd you get that? The Agiel is a red leather rod about a foot in length, nowhere in the books is it described as anything close to a circle.
