And no doubt it was a difficult choice. After hearing one of her speeches, I could tell she loves her family as much as any mother, but the Burmese government is killing thousands of innocent people and oppressing the rest, and to the people, she represents a glimmer of hope that one day this civil war will end and that Burma will be a great country once again, so I can understand why she did it. A wonderful person she is, may she live long enough to see the people of Burma free from this coup

Well, I'm not a reviewer, but I'm Swedish and I liked it. I don't think they were trying to be sexist but rather show how hard it was for her to do what she did. She was put under house arrest and could not see her family, because they wouldn't let them see her, and if she left Burma to see them she would never be let back in and the people who saw her as a glimmer of hope for their future would be let down. She was forced to leave them so she could help lead Burma, I could never have done that

ok, I'm a Burmese. And this is what happened. She never saw her husband who's dying with cancer or something, and he never got the Visa to come visit to Suu Kyi when she was contained. So, he just died without seeing his wife. And her kids, she haven't seen them for 20+ yrs. So, think from a woman's perspective who couldn't see her husband died. A woman who knew her kids just left without a mother (or any parent) to raise them but couldn't do anything about it. Hope this enlightens your mind.
